The New Brunswick PNP targets prospective immigrants who possess the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to its economy. Applicants must receive a nomination from New Brunswick before they can apply through NBPNP.
There are multiple immigration streams under which NBPNP accepts applications:
- Express Entry Labour Market Stream
- Skilled Worker with Employer Support
- Entrepreneurial Stream
- Post-Graduate Entrepreneurial Stream
Express Entry Labour Market Stream
This stream is part of the federal Express Entry (EE) system and targets those in the Express Entry pool of candidates who meet specified criteria:
- Candidate has submitted an EE profile
- Currently living and working in NB in an occupation classified as 0, A, or B
- Have a valid Canadian work permit
- Have achieved CLB 7 in all four areas of the language proficiency test
- Have a valid Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) verifying that their education is equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma
Eligible applicants must achieve a minimum of 67 points from the Federal Skilled Worker Program selection factors as well as meet NBPNP’s specified criteria.
Eligible applicants who meet the above requirements as well as New Brunswick’s regular eligibility requirements for this program can then submit their expression of interest (EOI) to be considered for nomination.
Applicants that are nominated receive an additional 600 points toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) making it all but likely that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Skilled Worker with Employer Support
This is a great option for applicants between the ages of 22 and 55 who have received a full-time permanent job offer from a New Brunswick employer.
This stream is not tied with the federal Express Entry system, so if you have been waiting in the EE pool or do not have a high enough score, this option is one that you can look into especially if you are already living and working or studying in the province that you now call home.
However, you must have already completed your high school education, have the qualifications/license required for your role, and score a minimum of 50 points in the selection factors in order to apply.
Entrepreneurial Stream
This stream is designed for individuals between the ages of 22 and 55 looking to establish and manage a business in New Brunswick and requires an exploratory visit as part of the process.
The way this stream works is, because it is part of the Expression of Interest (EOI) system, interested individuals must submit an EOI form where they are assessed based on the eligibility requirements and assigned a score. Those with higher scores are invited to apply under the NBPNP.
This stream requires applicants to be able to invest at least $250,000CAD in New Brunswick, have 33.33% ownership in the business, which they must actively manage, as well as having a personal net worth of at least $600,000 CAD, of which $300,000 must be liquid and unencumbered by debts and/or other obligations.
Post-Graduate Entrepreneurial Stream
This last stream applies to post-secondary graduates between the ages of 22 and 40 of a New Brunswick institution who have gone to start their own business or have acquired one in the province for at least one year. They must have 100% ownership of the equity of the business. As well, a valid post-graduation work permit is required.
As with the regular entrepreneurial stream in NB, this one also requires graduates to first submit an EOI in order to receive a score out of 100. The minimum score required to be eligible is 65.
However, unlike the other entrepreneurial stream, a minimum investment amount is not required.
