Saskatchewan, one of Canada’s Prairie provinces, offers foreign nationals three different categories through which they can immigrate:
International Skilled Worker
Under this category, applicants can then choose from three streams:
Employment Offer
This stream is great for skilled workers with a job offer from an employer in Saskatchewan that is skill type NOC 0, A, or B.
Occupations In- Demand
Applicants applying under this stream don’t need a job offer prior to applying, but is intended for skilled workers with experience in an in-demand occupation in Saskatchewan. Their work experience must be related to their occupation and or training and is classified as NOC 0, A, or B.
Saskatchewan Express Entry
This stream is targeted toward high skilled workers in the Express Entry pool of candidates who want to live and work in Saskatchewan. For skilled professionals, at least one year of work experience is required, for skilled trades people two years is required, and for individuals in Canada one year of work experience is required in the past three years. This work experience must be in the field of their education or training.
Saskatchewan Experience
This category has five streams and is open to individuals who are currently living and working in the province.
Existing Work Permit
Individuals who have been working in Saskatchewan under a valid work permit for at least six months may be eligible to apply under this stream. The occupation must be either NOC 0, A, or B, or be in a designated trade. They must have a valid SINP Job Approval Letter and that work experience must have been with the employer offering the job.
Health Professionals
This stream is for skilled workers who have been working full-time for at least six months as a physician, nurse, or other health professional. The eligibility criteria differ for each of these three occupations. Contact us to learn more.
Hospitality Sector Project
This stream is for individuals working with an SINP Hospitality-approved employer for a minimum of six months (960 hours) in one of the following jobs:
- Food/Beverage Server (NOC 6513)
- Food Counter Attendant/Kitchen Helper (NOC 6711)
- Housekeeping/Cleaning Staff (NOC 6731)
Long Haul Truck Driver Project
This stream allows individuals already working for an approved trucking firm for at least six months on a temporary work permit to apply. They must have a Saskatchewan Class 1A driver’s license.
Students
Students who have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and worked for at least six months of paid employment in the province may be eligible to apply. This employment can be on-campus, off-campus, co-op, fellowship, and from their PGWP, which they must be currently holding at the time of applying.
Entrepreneur and Farm Category
This category is intended for individuals looking to start a business or buy and operate a farm in Saskatchewan.
Entrepreneur Stream
This stream allows individuals and their family to start, acquire, or partner in a business in Saskatchewan and take an active role in the management of the business. The Entrepreneur stream operates on an Expression of Interest (EOI) model whereby an EOI is submitted to the SINP in order to receive an Invitation to Submit an Application. Candidates are selected on a point-based system; those with higher scores will be selected.
Candidates must have a minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD in Net Business and Personal Assets; three years of relevant management or entrepreneurial experience, and an investment of $300,000CAD minimum in Regina or Saskatoon or $200,000CAD in all other communities.
A Business Establishment Plan may be required by the province depending on the information submitted in your EOI.
International Graduate Entrepreneur
This stream is specific to international students who have completed a full-time post-secondary degree or diploma of at least two years from an eligible Saskatchewan institution and are on a valid PGWP with at least 24 months still remaining.
Requirements for the Business Establishment include actively owning and operating a business in Saskatchewan for a minimum of one year prior to applying, owning at least 1/3 of the business as a result of a verifiable investment, demonstrating the minimum required revenue is being generated, and signing a Business Performance Agreement (BPA) with the Government of Saskatchewan. This is given to the applicant by the SINP after their application is approved.
Farm Owner and Operator
This stream is aimed at individuals with farming experience, plan to buy and actively run a farm in the province, and have considerable capital to invest in a farming operation.
Interested applicants must have a net worth of $500,000CAD and make a “good faith” deposit of $75,000 in trust which will be returned when the terms of the Performance Agreement have been met.
An exploratory visit to Saskatchewan will be required prior to applying, provide documentation demonstrating their farming knowledge and experience, as well as a detailed proposal for a commercial Saskatchewan farming opportunity.
Farm Owner and Operator – Young Farmer
This stream was created in order to allow young farm families to establish themselves and their farming operations in the rural areas of the province.
Under this stream, the minimum personal net worth is at least $300,000CAD, be under the age of 40, and have a minimum of three years of experience in either farm ownership, farm management, or practical farming experience.
A documented proposal is still required with a reasonable expectation of profit (minimum $10,000CAD in annual revenue).
